Because there’s no cure. Because the last 40 years were wasted on pink awareness hope and “cure” campaigns that went nowhere. Mammograms are only partially effective in helping find a lump (which only makes up for 80% of the breast cancers, and isn’t effective at all, lump or not, in younger women with denser breast tissue and the incident rate of breast cancer in women under 40 is on a slow but steady rise), and don’t cure or treat anything.
We have been lulled into a false sense of security. When I was diagnosed, I honestly believed Stage IV could be cured, you just had to “fight harder”. That’s due to all the pink propaganda. It took a couple of months for the truth to sink through my skull.
Fatal diseases aren’t profitable. People don’t want to hear about death. They like their pink boas and tutus, and happy endings. I’ve been treated by early stage “survivors” like I’m contagious before. Like I shouldn’t be there. Like I should be quiet and not share my story. It’s too depressing. It’s too sad. Let’s only hear of positive things. I’m too negative.
