Houndstooth, hounds tooth check or hound’s tooth , also known as dogstooth, dogtooth, dog’s tooth, or pied-de-poule, is a duotone textile pattern characterized by broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes, often in black and white, although other colours are used. On game day we wear houndstooth. The classic houndstooth pattern is an example of a tessellation. Do you love this shirt?

I love the little espresso cups my mother in-law gives me for Christmas. Last year it was black polka dots, this year black houndstooth. They make me happy. And finally able to enjoy a shirt on the front porch? Beautiful.

I had a wonderful afternoon with a personal shopper at Topshop. Elle showed me the new range, which has a lot of retro influences, and accompanied me whilst I tried some on. I had a drink and there were cakes, and I felt like a celebrity for a little while. I could have bought the lot but, as always my purse restricts my extravagance. Here is a fabulous blouse that I got, and great shoes as well. On game day we wear houndstooth. I made a dress from vintage houndstooth fabric from an original fifties pattern this week, and I absolutely hate it. It looks frumpy and like a uniform, on me anyway. Why am I telling you this? Well the retro trousers that I’m wearing here are made from the remaining fabric. I will have to think of something creative for remodelling the dress. Watch this space!
